Perry Lake

It was a picture perfect morning going into the 3rd stop on the KCC Tournament Trail. The weather was ideal, but the Lake was pushing 9 ft high or so with lots of floating logs and limbs to watch out for, but lucky for us the fish didn't care.  Everyone for the most part was on some good fish, and by the end of the day I was culling out 13 inch fish, which isn't a bad thing at all, coming off of brush on ledges in 12 to 16 ft of water just out from the shallow flats on the Main Lake. I was able to fish that pattern for most of the day, giving it up around noon or so due to jet skis and ski boat wakes. After that it was off to the trees in the back of Slough Creek looking for a good kicker or two to add a few ounces to our bag of fish.

Ryan Harmon, fishing soft plastics from Top Secret Jigs brought in a Solid bag of fish taking the win with 7.77 fishing brush piles he puts in, which cost him a nasty looking spider bite on his thumb, all part of paying your dues to the Crappie Gods and putting in your work I guess.  Anytime you see him and his Yamaha powered Ranger show up you know you have your work cut out for you and any mistake you make is going to cost you dearly, but none the less, he is a great guy and an excellent Crappie Angler who is just as quick to teach you a thing or two as he is to beat you in a Tournament.

Another local KCC Favorite, Dustin Hobbs of Topeka, was right on Ryan's heels bringing in 7.47 taking 2nd overall and winning Big Fish with a post-spawn 1.29.  You can always count on Dustin placing well in any Tournament he hits, and is another solid stick you can always count on to teach you a thing or two regardless of the Lake or conditions he is fishing under.  When he isn't busy working as a Lineman for Weststar Energy, he is on the water chasing Slabs and the things he learns from all that time on the water shows when he comes to the scales.

I got to spend the day with my very good friend and Hall of Fame Outdoor Writer Brent Frazee. We had a blast as always, I get to listen to some cool stories from a guy that has fished with some of the best in the business over the years, that keeps me on my toes and pushes me to try and fish the cleanest game possible. He had a ton of fun putting some quality fish in the box of my Ranger 518 VX helping us take 4th place overall.  Brent is also the President of Outdoor Writers of Kansas, the guy that makes some great things happen with the money that the KCC Tournament Anglers raises to donate to them.

Here are the Top 5 ......
Ryan Harmon- 7.77
Dustin Hobbs-7.47
Beckwith/ Lynn- 6.86
Bragg/ Frazee- 6.26
Faulconer/ Allen-6.17
