We all knew it was going to be anything but easy on Saturday morning as some of the best Crappie anglers in the State converged on Melvern Lake for the 2018 KCC Snowball Fight. The weather forecast was calling for 20 mph plus winds, so we all braced ourselves for the bone jarring boat rides that were awaiting us, made some last minute adjustments to our game plans and went at it.
It wasn't any secret that it was going to be tough day, the Prefishing hadn't exactly been anything to write home about, although there were several solid fish caught. ![]()
Jim Bybee, fishing with his Sons, Tom and Cody, made a clean sweep of it putting the best overall weight on the board with 8.24 lbs, as well as winning Big Fish with a 1.95 lb Slab that landed them $1560.00 for taking 1st Place and Big Fish, plus prizes from Crappieholic and some amazing Artwork from Jarrod Biddel. Team Bybee got it done this weekend by fishing the warmer water in the shallows, vertical fishing brush and standing timber picking off the slabs that earned them the win.

The Team of Craig Schmitt & Dustin Kruse put 7.20 on the Scales, landing them in 2nd Place and sending them home with a $720.00 paycheck for the day.

The Team of Morgan, Roberts, & Still fought the hard fight and put 5.72 on the Scales to put them in 3rd Place. Parker Still is the youngest full time Tournament Angler we have on the water, and it's always great to see him use those Top Secret Jigs to pull off a money finish, going home with $420.00 more than you got to the boat ramp with is never a bad thing.
Even though the conditions were some of the toughest we've seen in a while, it was still good to see everyone again after a long Winter, and discuss all the great stuff we have lined up for this year including a State Championship Tournament to be held on Perry on September 8-9th, more details on that will be coming out soon. We had some great prizes to give away with the help of some great Sponsors, make sure to check them out and let them know you appreciate the help they offer to us Kansas Anglers by supporting KCC.
