It was a perfect morning for a Fundraiser Tournament Sunday as fourteen Teams of the best Crappie Anglers in Kansas shattered the early morning silence to raise money for Fishing's Future as they buried the throttles and made the run to their favorite patches of trees on Hillsdale.
I ran to a patch of hedge trees that lined an old roadbed across from the Marysville ramp. I had been on Hillsdale pre fishing since Friday morning , and trying to pin down the bigger fish proved a challenge, and this was the only spot I found with good numbers of keeper fish in the twelve inch range that I didn't have to risk running through trees on an unfamiliar lake to get to. ![]()
For the Teams that did know the way through the trees however, they were pulling in some very good fish from the area around Bull Creek.
The Top Secret Jigs Team of Brandon Manis and Marc Shepard found them, bringing in a bag that was just under nine pounds taking the top spot with 8.98 on 7 fish, as well as the Big Fish contest Win with a 1.89. That has brought them all the way up to 2nd place in the KCC points Race. That Team is on fire lately with back to back clean sweeps, and they are closing in on the Team of Morsdorf/ Harman who is leading the points race with every Tournament. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
The Team of Todd Morsdorf/ Ryan Harman came in with 8.78 taking second place just two ounces off the winning weight, and the Team of Ryan German/ Tony Niemeyer took third place with 8.33. Those three teams are well known for finding the big ones in the trees during Summer, and they proved it yet again on Hillsdale this weekend.
